Screwing Around at 4AM: A Video Post

I spent all of this week doing quite a bit of writing for the blogging course I’m working on. Everything is going great on that front, but by the time I sit down to write something up for Wage Slave Rebel I feel all blogged out. For a while I’ve been thinking (and talking, if you follow me on Twitter) about doing a video post and really wracking my brain trying to think of something I could talk about.

But, thanks to an accidental 7pm nap, a 9am appointment and the complete absence of any tiredness whatsoever, you get to experience the first ever Wage Slave Rebel video post! It’s just a bit of fun, not the usual sort of article you’d find around here, but I was geeking out over this new iPhone app called Everyday Looper. So, that’s what I did at 4am.

I had a jam session. With my iPhone. And here’s the evidence.

Well… to be fair, I never claimed to be a good singer. :)

Anyway, I hope to do video posts more often (and more seriously) moving forward. This was just a stupid way of experimenting. For you musician types with an iPhone, I highly recommend heading to the app store and buying Everyday Looper!

Haha, thanks. I think I was even a surprised by how good it turned out, especially when you hear it being put together piece by piece like that. It’s pretty hard to believe that the iPhone could mix that together in real time.

Not bad for a 4am jam session. :D Not being that great of a morning person, I wouldn’t attempt singing. lol .-= Heather Villa´s last blog ..How Entrepreneurs Can Get the Benefits of a Team (Wihout Selling Part of Their Business) =-.

In all honesty I probably shouldn’t have attempted singing. I’d never played that song in that way before. But overall, for 4am I’m happy with it. :)

Ha. You goofball. Sounds good though and that’s a pretty impressive app. I don’t have an iPhone, but a loop pedal is exactly how I start working out basic arrangements for new songs. .-= Tyler Tervooren´s last blog ..tylertervooren: Morning everyone. Kickin’ ass today? =-.

I’ve always tended more toward playing acoustic so I’ve not done much with pedals. I’ve been wanting to try looping for quite a while now and it was a lot easier to drop $5 for this app than hundreds on a pedal. It sure would be nice to be able to stop it with my feet though. You can hear certain parts drop out at the end because I had to (really quickly) move my hand from the guitar to tap the screen.

I can definitely see this being useful for starting new songs. It’s really encouraging to get that “full band” effect.

Ha! I was smiling throughout that whole video. Takes a lot of balls to sing and put yourself out there like that :)

Good stuff and the opening to “WSR” video was sick. Awesome stuff man.

OH, and I def appreciate that you used up all your blogging skills for the blogging course. It shows in the quality of the material. .-= Mike Siete Cinco´s last blog ..A Conversation…with my mind =-.

Thanks, Mike! The blogging course has kind of ruined me. I sit down and can get two one-thousand-word lessons out in three hours and then I come back to Wage Slave Rebel and just… stare. Haha.

Monday is looking a lot better for WSR than today was. :)

Thanks about the opening. I’d actually made it back in November when I first started thinking about doing video.

The Postal Service is fitting because you look a lot like Ben Gibbard. .-= Nick´s last blog .. =-.

Haha. Thanks? I guess it’s a compliment. Ben Gibbard looks pretty cool (and he did get Zooey Deschanel). If I’d taken the time to put this in the right key, I’d have sounded more like Ben Gibbard, too. This was lower than I was comfortable with, but decent enough.

Thanks for stopping by, Nick! Hope to see you here more often.

Yeah, that was a compliment. Anyone who can land Zooey has to be on top of their game. I’ve been reading your blog for a little while now and it’s definitely one of my favorites. Keep up the good work. .-= Nick´s last blog ..Experimenting with Ehow and Bukisa =-.

I agree. I know it was good for me. I was feeling kind of stuck this week. It was nice to just do something with no real purpose.

Thanks about the opening. I was really proud of it. I just put it together in iMovie with some pictures I found and one of Garageband’s jingles. I’m really happy with the quality given how limited iMovie is.

    JD!

You’re singing one of my favorite songs, ever. :D

Sometimes lack of sleep and moments of insanity create a brilliant, random video. Bravo on your first video post!! :)
